Nondestructive Characterization
Institute (NCI)
Work With Us
At LLNL, our researchers work to solve a wide range of multidisciplinary problems of national interest. Technologies include X-ray & neutron computed tomography, ultrasonics, microwaves, eddy current, inverse problems, signal & image processing, machine learning, data science, modeling & simulations.
We are always looking for top engineers, scientists, and staff to join our engineering family. We offer some of the world's most advanced technologies, competitive salaries and benefits, a robust but balanced work environment, and the freedom to work on a variety of research projects.
Join our team, and be a part of an organization whose mission is to serve America's national interests while propelling the field of engineering into the future.
Partner with Us
We are actively looking for partners in academia, government, other laboratories, research institutions, and industry who are interested in collaborative nondestructive evaluation and characterization efforts. We have widespread capabilities at LLNL, and our expertise has also been instrumental in understanding the material characteristics of objects around the world.

INTERNSHIPS AND STUDENT PROGRAMS
NCI has a strong program to involve undergraduate and graduate students in its research areas. Examples of projects you might work on include: developing software tools to estimate density and effective atomic number of materials (ZeCalc), simulating the x-ray signatures of explosives, or designing a novel CT scanner using a new spectrometric detector array.

POSTDOC PROGRAM
NCI has a strong program to involve post-doctoral researchers. Examples of projects you might work on include: developing software tools for inverse problem solving, image segmentation, estimating density and effective atomic number of materials, simulating the x-ray signatures of explosives, or designing a novel CT scanner using a new spectrometric detector array or laser bay x-ray based sources.
