Center for Micro and Nanotechnology (CMNT)
Partnering for Impact
Collaboration is central to CMNT’s mission. As a user facility in a DOE national laboratory, the center is uniquely positioned to accelerate discovery and translate groundbreaking research into custom solutions and field-ready technologies for national security applications or the commercial market.
All LLNL employees and collaborators are welcome to use our facility, and we actively seek partnerships with universities, industry, and government agencies. External collaborations can include co-proposing work to sponsors such as NIH and DARPA, mentoring student interns, hosting faculty on sabbatical, and sending our staff to serve on university advisory boards.

Collaboration Highlights
Neural interface technology for scent detection
CMNT researchers and neurotechnology company Canaery developed an advanced nose-computer interface capable of enhancing the ability of scent detection animals.
Advancing next-generation neural implants
CMNT staff are working with Precision Neuroscience to advance neural implant technology to help patients suffering from a variety of neurological disorders.
Working with CMNT
The CMNT welcomes partnerships that bring together external expertise with our unique infrastructure. In some cases, external researchers even work alongside our team in facilities like the cleanroom through established collaboration mechanisms such as Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs). These and other pathways are managed by LLNL’s Innovation and Partnerships Office (IPO), which ensures that collaborations are structured to meet both partner and mission needs.
